Juvenile Officially Charged in Connection to an Armed Carjacking in Apple Valley
APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - The Dakota County Attorney’s Office has filed a summons against Jaykhi Jordan, 19, alleging that he assisted in an armed carjacking on February 18, 2024. Jordan is accused of aiding Grayshaun Lamar Smith, also 19, in the violent crime that took place in Apple Valley. According to the criminal complaint released by the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, Jordan is charged with aiding an offender to avoid arrest, a felony with a maximum sentence of 0-3 years and/or a fine ranging from $1,500 to $5,000. The complaint details that Jordan harbored, concealed, and assisted Smith, who committed a felony by carjacking a vehicle from a locksmith at gunpoint.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of February 18, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting an armed robbery in Apple Valley. The Victim, a locksmith, was coerced into handing over his keys and phone at gunpoint by Smith, who then fled the scene in the Victim’s vehicle, according to the complaint. The complaint states that surveillance footage from the Victim’s vehicle played a crucial role in the investigation. The footage captured Smith stopping outside a residence in Apple Valley and calling for "Ravi" to bring out a phone charger. The rear camera showed a male exiting the residence, later identified as Jordan. Officers confirmed Jordan’s residence in Apple Valley, Minnesota, and matched the location captured in the surveillance footage.
Additional digital evidence linked Jordan to Smith’s carjacking activities, as Smith’s cell phone records showed multiple calls between Smith and Jordan before and during the carjacking. According to the criminal complaint, one significant call occurred around 4:46 p.m., lasting nearly three minutes, during which Smith was parked outside Jordan’s residence. Further, CashApp records indicated financial transactions between Jordan and Smith on the day of the carjacking. At 3:52 p.m., Jordan paid Smith $22, approximately 40 minutes before the incident. The complaint alleges that another payment of $10 was made at 5:29 p.m., correlating with Smith’s actions after parking the stolen vehicle in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
According to the criminal complaint, surveillance footage also captured Smith bragging about the carjacking and discussing details with Jordan. Jordan is reportedly heard instructing Smith on handling the stolen vehicle, including plans to hide it in a garage and mentioning a “crime scene.” Jordan reportedly directed Smith to drive the vehicle to an address in Saint Paul, Minnesota, claiming it belonged to an individual named "DayDay." The complaint alleges that Jordan also discussed having another person clean the vehicle to remove evidence.

According to court records, Jordan has several juvenile adjudications, including possession of a pistol or ammunition while under 18. His criminal history and involvement in the recent carjacking underscore a pattern of delinquent behavior.
Current Status
Smith currently remains in custody at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Faribault, Minnesota, on unrelated felony weapons charges out of Ramsey County, Minnesota. Smith faces multiple additional felony charges, including first-degree carjacking and aggravated robbery, in connection with this case.
