MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN - Business Fire Called in by Passerby | March 9, 2022

Around 1:32 PM on March 9, 2022, a call came out for a fire at Valmont - Applied Coating Technology in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. Two separate calls came in from people driving by both reporting the building was showing heavy black smoke coming from a smokestack on the top of the building.

The fire was dispatched out of Eagan, MN and Mendota Heights, MN to respond to the call with the first engines en route to the scene by 1:37 PM. The first Mendota Heights police units arrived on the scene at around the same time, 1:37 PM. At the time of arrival, they were not reporting any visible smoke or flames. At around 1:39 PM both Eagan Battalion and Engine 2 were arriving at the scene. Command was reporting no smoke or flames on three sides, alarms were sounding, and they would be out investigating. Mendota Heights Engine arrived around 1:41 PM.

Command had Engine 2 set up on the Charlie-Delta side of the building and was reporting that the possible cause of the smoke was from a possible oven burn-off. Mendota Heights crew, after investigation, reports there is no active fire or smoke at this time. They did have a small fire in a contained environment. Crews were working to secure the fire alarm system.

By 1:51 PM Mendota Heights was retuned to back in service with all fire crews clear of the scene and command cancelled by 1:53 PM.
