Icy Conditions Lead to Major Head-On Crash Outside Coates, Minnesota

COATES, MINNESOTA - Just before 5:50 AM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, several emergency personnel were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on County Road 46. The crash was reportedly on the bend of County Road 46 near 160th Street East just outside Coates, Minnesota. Per scanner traffic, it was reported by both dispatch and Rosemount Fire personnel that County Road 46 was very slick and covered in glare ice.

Witnesses to the accident say two vehicles, a Toyota and a Jeep, were traveling along County Road 46 in opposite directions when one of the vehicles slid and hit the other vehicle head-on.

In a post from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page around 7 AM, they confirmed there was an accident. County Road 46 was closed just west of 160th Street East to Fischer Road. The road reopened around 10:25 AM. We have unconfirmed reports that this might have been a fatal crash, but we have not been able to confirm that information yet.

We have contacted the Dakota County Sheriff's Office for more information on the accident but have not heard back. Once more information is available, we will update this story with the latest.
