Recovery Efforts Continued Tuesday for a Vehicle in the Minnesota River; Two Vehicles & Victim Found

BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA—
Several emergency personnel were on the scene again in Bloomington, Minnesota, to recover a vehicle that had driven into the Minnesota River from the Lyndale Avenue Boat ramp on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Crews attempted to recover the vehicle on Monday but could not due to weather and river conditions. We spoke with members of KSTP, who reported that emergency personnel had arrived on the scene around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Members of the South Metro Fire Department, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Allina Health, Bloomington Fire Department, Dakota County Sheriff, Burnsville Fire, Bloomington Police, JF Brennan Company, and Chief’s Towing were all assisting on Tuesday.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, while crews attempted to relocate the original vehicle this morning, they found a second vehicle close to the original vehicle they were looking for. The Sheriff’s office reports that around 10:45 AM, crews pulled out the vehicle driven into the river on Sunday evening. In this vehicle, they confirmed they had found a victim. They stated that the Hennepin County Medical Examiner was called to the scene, and they were working to identify the victim and cause of death and contact their next of kin. The investigation into what occurred Sunday evening is still ongoing.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, crews recovered the second vehicle around 2:45 PM. The vehicle was said to be in about 24 feet of water and about 500 feet from the shoreline. This vehicle is believed to have been in the water for some time and is not believed to be related to the incident on Sunday evening. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office says they are also investigating this incident.
