Eliminate large items and organic waste with recycling and donation options across the Twin Cities

TWIN CITIES - Have some large items you want to eliminate, including sofas and mattresses? There are several options across the Twin Cities, including across Dakota County, for residents to dispose of large items, including recycling and donation opportunities.

One regional option for getting rid of your mattress, box spring, furniture, housewares and linens, small appliances, and electronics - to name a few - is Bridging, Inc. You can drop off your donations at either of their Roseville or Bloomington, Minnesota locations for free, or you can schedule a home pickup from your curb, driveway, or garage by the company for a pickup service fee of $125. For a full list of items they accept, you can go here, What do we Accept?

Another option for getting rid of furniture and appliances would be using secondhand stores like Goodwill, Arc's Value Village, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, the Salvation Army, and Better Futures Minnesota. The Salvation Army, Goodwill, and ReStore offer free furniture and donation pickups. For wood and construction materials, Habitat for Humanity ReStore and Better Futures will also accept these items.

Have food waste? There are several free organic drop-off locations across Dakota County, with two more coming August 1st to Apple Valley and Inver Grove Heights. These organic drop-off locations allow residents to drop off food scraps that will be composted. For more information about these organic drop-off locations or sign up to use your nearest location, you can visit Organic Drop Off.
